Birmingham, Banter & Beyoncé vs. Adele

Writer: MuhsinMuhsin

🔢 Show #33 of the Year

🚗 Miles Traveled: ~71 miles (Manchester to Birmingham)

🎭 Venue: The MAC Theatre 📍(Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham B12 9QH)

🎤 Headliner: Nabil Abdulrashid 🔥

Comedy tours are like weddings with no commitment. You travel, meet new people, eat too much, and someone inevitably embarrasses themselves (usually me). Last night, the show was at The MAC Theatre in Birmingham, part of Nabil Abdulrashid’s tour. Another night, another city, another crowd. And as always, another very serious debate in the car.

Nabil: "how many photos are you going to take?"

Beyoncé vs. Adele

At some point on this road trip, things got heated. Not over politics, not over football... but over who is the better singer: Beyoncé or Adele.

Nabil's argument "She is pure soul. Adele is an imitation of soul."

And look, I hear that. But Adele had me curled up at 11 years old missing a woman who didn’t exist. What kind of fake soul has that kind of power? That’s real pain. That’s a spiritual experience.

So, what do you reckon? Who’s the superior vocalist? Drop your thoughts, and let’s keep this argument going forever.

The Show Recap

😂 Best crowd moment: I asked if there were any primary school teachers in the audience... silence. Not one hand.

Then I check my Instagram, and suddenly it’s a full staffroom reunion in the comments section. I get it though, done wrong laugh and little Aiden’s calling you out in assembly "Miss, I saw you, and you found the rude bits FUNNY."

🎤 How my set went:

The show was solid. The crowd was definitely older than Manchester’s. The lights were ridiculously bright at first. I’m talking "walking into the kitchen at 2 AM and turning on the big light" bright. But weirdly, after a while, your eyes just adjust, and suddenly you can actually see the audience.

I tried to hiss at someone (I do this a lot), but because I couldn’t see, I kept creeping forward like a horror movie villain. Then, as if I hadn’t embarrassed myself enough, my microphone got stuck. Beautiful. A true professional at work.

Day 2 Feels: Overeating at the breakfast buffet and overeating all around.

Woke up feeling good about day 2 of 4. Why? Because I secured a free breakfast.

A man simply asked, “Brother, are you Muslim?” I said, “Yes,” and boom free breakfast.

I call that Muslim privilege.

And let me tell you, I did not hold back.

  • Veggie Sausages

  • Turkey bacon

  • Eggs

  • Hashbrowns

  • Baked beans

  • Pain au chocolat

  • Yogurt with granola

And in the one moment where I tried to be healthy, I looked at the toast and thought, "Nah, better not." Because obviously, that one slice of toast would’ve been too much.

My waistline is in danger, but my heart is happy.

Altaf’s family & the art of overfeeding

As if the day hadn’t already been a five-star eating experience, Altaf’s family cooked up an absolute feast:

✔ Peri peri chicken

✔ Rice

✔ Coleslaw

✔ Potatoes

And just when I thought I was full, they brought out biscuits and chocolates. And then more chocolates. And then even more. At one point, I felt like I was in some kind of chocolate-based endurance challenge.

I have definitely overeaten today. But I regret nothing. Wonderful food. Wonderful people. Worth the calories.

By the way…

🚨 I have an audition at The Pleasance Theatre! 🚨

You can find tickets on the homepage under March 10th or here—would love to see you there!

Until then, I’ll be on the road, eating my way through Britain, arguing about Adele, and trying (and failing) not to embarrass myself on stage.
